code push shortly
Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012 01:47 amWe'll be beginning a code push in about 15-20 minutes. Please put up your seat backs and return your tray tables to the full and upright locked position. We'll update this entry when we're done!
(2:40AM EST: As always, the prep turns out to be more involved than we predicted. We'll hopefully be starting soon.)
3:10AM EST: And, we're done! Please report any issues here or to Support.

Another newbie
Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 12:22 pmNAME: Lisa (awehla)
AGE: 30
INTERESTS: Science fiction and fantasy (Superman, Smallville, Being Human, True Blood, 70's/80's sci fi like Survivors and Tripods, also will watch old things like Quatermass and the Pit and will read old things like HG Wells: The Time Machine), period dramas (currently enjoying Call the Midwife and Upstairs Downstairs), psychology, health and most types of music except for heavy metal.
HOBBIES: Watching TV, reading (mainly graphic novels at the moment), going to restaurants and the cinema, used to write fanfiction and fiction in general but haven't written anything for a few years now and still have two snailmail penpals down from many in pre-internet days.
LOOKING FOR: Anyone with similar interests who likes writing long rambling entries like myself.
ANYTHING ELSE?: Am currently 27 weeks pregnant so not sure how much time I will have for Dreamwidth from May onwards ;). I am over here from Live Journal and have entries imported over here dating back to 2004 so you won't run out of reading material on my journal.
Will be nice to make friends with some of you. :)

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 01:11 amNAME: rumbling_thunder or Kelly works, too.
AGE: 28
INTERESTS: Cars, People, Art, Spirituality- the subject doesn't really matter. I like reading and listening to anything people are passionate about and have the courage to put their deepest thoughts into writing. I like reading about people who are trying to live life, be wiser, understand their world better- as long as it is honest and genuine. I like trying to make the world a better place, but I also like it when people are in tune with their darker natures.
HOBBIES: I like being good at what I do and if not then making constant improvements. Driving, reading, drawing, are my most common hobbies, but mostly I spend time thinking, planning, and organizing my brain into something I can live with while I am living my life. When there is not an immediate need to do any of those things, I prefer to sleep, dream, and laze about so that I don't have to think about anything, I can just enjoy being and the silence with it.
LOOKING FOR: I am looking for people with moral character trying to live their lives and are willing to share that on their journal. The sharing of experiences and opinions is more than enough for me, although poetry and photos can be good, too.
ANYTHING ELSE?: I'm a pretty intense individual but not really that intimidating. As long as the drama is part of the story and not the posting (i.e. trolls, hacks, or idiots) I'm good!

Linux Mint
Sunday, February 19th, 2012 03:11 pmI started using Ubuntu last year, since it was touted as the most beginner-friendly Linux distribution, but I don't like where Canonical is taking it and needed to jump ship. So I installed Linux Mint this weekend, and I really wasn't expecting it to just work out of the box...but it damn near did. I only had to install a couple of drivers for my printer/scanner and to get the wifi working, but surprisingly my tablet just worked. It's almost disappointing. Set up was easier than Windows or Ubuntu, about as easy or slightly harder then Mac OS X, shockingly.
Instead of spending the weekend tinkering with the OS to get it working the way I want, I spent the weekend just...using it. And I realized that I could up and abandon OS X tomorrow fairly comfortably if I needed to. I certainly will eventually, as Microsoft and Apple are both slowly moving towards closed systems, and I react very badly to being told what I can and can't do. I'd probably make Linux Mint my main OS today, if not for being so married to Scrivener (and even then, there's already a beta Scrivener for Linux being worked on).
TL;DR I heart Linux Mint.

AGE: 22
INTERESTS: First and foremost, I'm a giant a nerd! I like video games, anime, and reading (particularly fantasy novels). I have a bit of a "girly" side as well. I like cute things, pastel colors, and making my journal entries aesthetically pleasing. I'm also a liberal and believe strongly in human rights, animal rights, and all those other rights. I like TV too! I'm not always super up to date with my shows, but my favorites are Game of Thrones, Community, 30 Rock, Adventure Time, My Little Pony, and I love both the Daily Show and Colbert Report.
HOBBIES: I collect Monster High dolls. I follow politics regularly. I play lots of video games. I enjoy taking pictures of my cats and sharing them with the world. Sometimes I daydream about being a character in the Song of Ice and Fire books, but then I realize that I would probably be killed off in some gruesome manner.
LOOKING FOR: Nerdy friends! People who like video games and like talking about them with others. People who pay attention to politics and are socially liberal. People who like any of the same shows I do. Anyone interested in being friends too!
ANYTHING ELSE?: I hope I didn't come off as too boring! You can view my Tumblr here if you want to get a better idea of my interests. :)

INTERESTS: Music (listening: mostly edm but my second favourite genre is reggae. And then there's all the other genres I listen to...basically if I like the lyrics and/or melody, it's cool. Performing: I sing pretty much anything and everything.) Religion and spirituality. I feel like I know which direction I should be headed spiritually but just don't want to admit it. It's complicated. I have an unhealthy collection of books. Fiction. Non-fiction. Notebooks... I love anything creative - words, pictures, music, movies...
LOOKING FOR: Friendship. Creative inspiration. Conversation.

database rebalancing
Tuesday, February 14th, 2012 11:08 amA few weeks ago we deployed a new pair of databases. Now that they've broken in and I'm confident in them, I've started the process of rebalancing users to even out the database load. This involves moving users from the old database machines to the new ones.
I don't expect there to be any issues, but as always, please let me know if you see anything untoward!
